In June 2024, we onboarded 10 learners on a Generic Management Level 3 Learnership. On this programme the learners are required to complete a certain amount of hours at a workplace.
A mentoring program was designed for these learners which involved pairing them with selected mentors who can offer support tailored to their unique needs and strengths. The program aims to foster academic and personal growth by providing guidance, encouragement, and practical advice.
Selected mentors are carefully chosen for their experience and commitment to inclusivity. They undergo training to understand the expectations of the programmed and learn effective strategies for supporting learners. Mentors work closely with their mentees to set achievable goals, develop skills, and navigate challenges specific to their needs.
The program includes regular one-on-one meetings, where mentors help mentees with academic tasks, career planning, and personal development. Additionally, group workshops and peer support sessions create a broader community, allowing learners to share experiences and strategies.
Evaluation and feedback mechanisms are in place to ensure the program’s effectiveness and address any issues.
The overall goal is to empower learners with disabilities, enhance their self-confidence, and provide them with the tools and resources necessary for success in their academic and future professional endeavors.
